Sustainability

As a business we depend on our natural environment and local community to provide inspiration, recreation, escape, employment and so much more. We have an obligation to limit the impact we have not only on our immediate environment but on the wider world and we are committed to work continually to that end. In 2024 we launched a groundbreaking new agreement with Natural Resources Wales that protects the future of our forest. Find out more about this and our other initiatives below.

"Rewilding" the Bike Park

After years of negotiation we have signed a groundbreaking agreement with Natural Resources Wales that will see income from our land rent reinvested in the forest to improve diversity and resiliance. We've created a web page dedicated to this incredible project that will span at least the next 30 years.

Sports for Nature

BikePark Wales is delighted to be a signatory to the Sports for Nature initiative. The Sports for Nature Framework was created to tap into sports’ enormous potential to take on ambitious goals and drive positive change. The Framework aims to deliver transformative, nature positive action across sports by 2030 and beyond, enabling sports to champion nature and contribute to its protection and restoration.

Signatories to the Sports for Nature initiative sign up to working towards making improvements in four areas:

1.Protect nature and avoid damage to natural habitats and species;
2. Restore and regenerate nature wherever possible;
3. Understand and reduce risks to nature in our supply chains; and
4. Educate and inspire positive action for nature across and beyond sport.

We are making great strides towards these goals as an organisation but as always there is more that can be done and we are committed to making those improvements.

CO2

Since 2021 we have been balancing all CO2 emmisions we produce through use of our uplift vehicles, trail building plant, site transport, vehicle repairs and the gas we use to heat the centre with our partner Temwa. Temwa are a relatively small and therefore efficient and focussed charity that works in Northern Malawi. Temwa work in partnership with rural communities to support initiatives that remove CO2 from the atmosphere at the same time as creating employment and addressing social and environmental issues.

We are also working on and monitoring efforts to reduce carbon emmissions. Since 2021 all our Electricity has been 100% green. In 2022 we commissioned a carbon footprint report, in 2023 we covered the roof of our visitor centre with solar panels as one of the key findings from that report. Our quest to lower our impact continues.

Mountain Rescue

The Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team is a voluntary organisation responsible for covering the Central section of the Brecon Beacons, Newport, Cardiff and the valleys. The team do an incredible job and provide a truly invaluable service. Whilst we have first aid staff onsite, there are still times that we need to call upon the experts at CBMRT. As a volunteer organisation support and funding is vital and we therefore make a monthly donation to help support the team.
